Paper Doll Book

The year before last, before I left the course, I was working on a paper doll book for the publish project. Paper dolls were one of the things I loved when I was little. I used to collect all sorts of them, from Elizabethan costume, fashions worn by the stars of Hollywood to bridal fashions.

Also, I've always been fascinated by historical fashion and costume, decided to bring these two together in my paper doll book:

I then based this around pasta. (I really can't remember why now) I decided to design a dress for each decade in the 20th Century based on a type of pasta. For example, (in the image below) the 1960's Ravioli quilted dress, the 1970's Penne pasta trouser suit, the 1980's Spaghetti gown and the 1990's Lasange Dress.

Bubbles on the Bed
The Bubbles' Bear Trap
Dinner!

These are the rough finished versions, some of them don't quite work as the sizes need to be changed, but this is the basic overview.

Comic

Most recently, I've been producing work for 'Comic'.  Exploring the idea of graphic novels and traditional comics. I didn't meet the deadline for the class anthology, but I thoroughly enjoyed making the comics. I based mine on our moody house pet, Bubbles the cat.

Play Flyers

The most frequent thing I've been producing over the past few years are posters and flyers for a friend of mine. When I was younger I used to go to a drama group in South West London, called the South West Youth Theatre, run by The Little Actors Theatre Company. This is still going on today, though I have left, but I am still asked from time to time to produce flyers and posters for the productions they put on. There are a few branches, the two I most often produce work of are the SWYT (in London) and LAYT (now called InterACT Youth Theatre, in Neston, Cheshire).

They often take part in the National Connections scheme run by the National Theatre every year.

The most recent flyer I've produced is for 'Little Foot', written by Craig Higginson for The National Theatre New Connections Scheme.

Elements

It's been a difficult few years. Quite a few false starts, and a lot of learning. I'm coming back to my old blog as I think it's the one that will give the biggest overview of my work. I'm going to also keep my most recent blog: Amassing Stuff
This is a record of things that I have found and am inspired by or interested in. It will also be where I talk about things I'm doing on the side. My Sewing, my collecting, my gardening. Though I will be crossing these two over.

I'm coming up to my Third Year Personal Project decision, and as the proposal for this requires an evaluation of past work, I thought It would be a good idea to begin that here.

A Fresh Start
